Your iPhone can automatically place a pin on Apple Maps when you park your car. iOS derives this through its connection to your car’s audio system, based on Bluetooth or CarPlay. When you unplug or turn off your car and drive away, the place you left is where your iPhone thinks you parked your car.
However, this feature may not work for you, as a family member did. In fact, they couldn’t even find the option, which is usually found in Settings > Maps What show parking location.
Apple manages this feature through privacy settings. requires you to have Settings > privacy > rental services on and that Settings > privacy > location services > system services > Important locations is also set to In.
The reason? Apple obtains important locations for you through many signals and stores them in meaningful locations. It infers your home, work, school, and other important places that you visit repeatedly. iOS does not place a pin on a regularly visited location.
The idea must be that the feature would be irritating to people with this feature disabled, as they would drop a pin every time they park in front of their house or in a work parking lot. Therefore, Apple does not even make it available.
